ALFRESCO ENTERTAINING IDEAS FOR THE PERFECT NIGHT IN

As the evenings get warmer, there are more opportunities to eat outside – bringing a real sense of the Mediterranean to the UK. People tell us that eating outside in the evening makes them think of their much-loved summer holidays abroad, but for us, it’s simply part of our everyday lives and one of our favourite simple pleasures.

To share this delight with you, we have a few ideas around how to make it as regular, easy and enjoyable as the weather allows. The British weather can be unpredictable and so our tips, along with a dash of Italian spontaneity, will help you to get together outside as much as possible on those beautifully warm summer evenings.

Head to your Local

Piazzas are squares, or public gathering spaces, that you’ll find in towns and cities across Italy. They are the beating heart of an area, much like your beloved British ‘local’ – you head there to socialise, bump into friends and make new ones.

We love to socialise outside, and you can’t beat the magical buzz of an Italian piazza. They are one of the best places to enjoy an al fresco evening with a BIRRA MORETTI, while watching the world go by in the company of friends.

As more streets across the UK are pedestrianised and bars and restaurants open their outside spaces, or enthusiastically roll out onto the pavement, you can now enjoy this authentic Italian pleasure here in the UK.

Spontaneous Picnics

The only predictable thing about Italians, is our unpredictability! We rarely plan anything; instead, we live in the moment and thrive on spontaneity. That’s why we always have a selection of BIRRA MORETTI and BIRRA MORETTI Zero chilled down and ready to go in the fridge for get togethers.

We love heading out on last-minute trips into the countryside to enjoy an evening picnic under the stars, or staying a little closer to home to meet friends on a whim in the local park. It’s easy to be spontaneous when there’s no preparation, so pick up some steaming-hot pizzas from your local Italian pizzeria on the way, or get them delivered to your picnic spot.

Impromptu Hosting

When you get a perfect summer evening, there’s no better time to invite friends around who you haven’t seen for ages. It’s lovely to reconnect as the sun goes down and so easy to put on a delicious al fresco evening spread - plenty for everyone - in minutes.

Keep jars of antipasti in the cupboard; olives, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and seasoned peppers in oil all work brilliantly. You can also squirrel away some easy-freeze batch cooks meals that can go straight into the oven. Lasagne freezes beautifully at home, as do Italian Meatballs and there are plenty of pasta meals that come out tasting as delicious as the day they were cooked. Serve them with a warmed garlic ciabatta from the freezer, along with a simple salad, and you’re good to go. Have some gelato on standby in the freezer, or try your hand at making a tiramisu ice-cream cake that you can serve straight from the freezer - the perfect summer dessert for those unexpected al fresco dinner parties.

Alternatively, get everyone to bring a dish. As Italians, we bond over food and people love to share their cooking and discuss their own take on recipes. They will be more than happy to bring something along, or pick up an easy-share dish on their way over.

Al Fresco Time

There’s more to al fresco summer evenings than simply eating outside. It’s about being spontaneous and finding joy and connection from the simple pleasures in life with family and friends. These simple pleasures don’t just happen; we make time for them and we know you’ll enjoy doing the same.
