OUR FAVOURITE ITALIAN-INSPIRED STAYCATION DESTINATIONS IN THE UK

For a small island, the UK has a captivating array of scenic locations, some of which could easily be mistaken for the Mediterranean, especially when the sun is gracing the skies. We believe the Italian aesthetic experience is much more than the beautiful buildings, it's also the stunning endless views. With that in mind we’ve scoured the British Isles to find the most romantically Italian-inspired destinations so you can enjoy BIRRA MORETTI with friends and family, in the atmosphere of Italy, yet closer to home.

Portmeirion Piazza, Gwynedd

Hidden on the estuary of the River Dwyryd in North Wales is Portmeirion, a small village bursting with pastel colours and intricate architecture reminiscent of the Italian riviera. Built by local architect, Sir Clough Williams- Ellis between 1925 and 1975, he wanted to pay homage to the ambience of the Mediterranean, and the beauty that lies in Portofino. Even on a cloudy day, the colours of Portmeirion evoke a sense of elation and warmth for those who visit. Sit in the Piazza, sip on a BIRRA MORETTI and you can almost imagine you’re somewhere in Italy.

Kent’s vineyards & canals

With a vast landscape of rolling hills, and blossom-filled orchards, Kent’s ‘Garden of England’ wouldn’t feel out of place in the Tuscan countryside.

Like in Italy, it’s the ideal climate for growing fruit and making wine due to more sunshine and higher temperatures. And with a wealth of local produce on the doorstep, you can cook up an Italian feast with ingredients made in the neighbouring fields.

Away from Kent’s vineyards is Canterbury. It may not be a floating city, or architecturally Mediterranean-inspired but its canals are home to many an Italian gondola and is the perfect setting to enjoy a BIRRA MORETTI. From the fields of Tuscany to the waters of Venice, you can experience it all in a single English county in one day.

Isles of Scilly

Gazing out from the Cornish coast, you get a sense of what the Mediterranean feels like, with its crystal clear turquoise waters and sun beaming down. And it’s no surprise that the Isles of Scilly have been voted the best destination for a staycation in the UK. Life on the island is very relaxed and calming, where every day makes time for simple pleasures, just like in our homeland. It may be remote, but it's the perfect setting to enjoy a BIRRA MORETTI in true Italian Aperitivo tradition against an unspoiled backdrop.

Lake District

Although the Lake District may lack the glamour and vibrancy found at Lake Como or Garda, it shares the same overwhelming sense of magnificence and picturesque views. There’s something quite magical and breath-taking in looking out at the vast open space of water with hills and mountains towering in the background. Possibly one to visit in the warmer months for a true comparison to Italy.

Italian Water Gardens, Kensington

In the heart of London lies an Italian garden fit for a king, or a queen to be exact. The Italian Water Gardens in Kensington are believed to have been a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria. With its large raised terraces, fountains and urns it’s a setting taken straight from the Italian Renaissance. A perfect space for leisure and relaxation enjoyed best in good company with a BIRRA MORETTI to hand.
