Summer of Sport | Birra Moretti

‘SALUTE’ TO A SUMMER OF SPORT

The UK is set for a bumper summer of sports. Whether it’s football, rugby, tennis, cricket, golf, F1, cycling or horse racing; there’s something for everyone and plenty of excuses to get together with friends and family to watch the big events with BIRRA MORETTI.

It’s no secret that Italy’s Jannik Sinner is pegged as one of the hottest prospects to watch in tennis this year, but it’s still ‘il calcio’ (football) that leads the way. As one of the prime pastimes, football is ingrained in the culture of Italy and brings everyone together, whoever you support. All eyes will be fixed on Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on 11th June, so we’re sharing how to get into the spirit.

Italy has boasted a raft of legend-status players over the years, with the top five Italian football players often regarded as Giuseppe Meazza, Paolo Maldini, Roberto Baggio, Franco Baresi and Dino Zoff. Often known as ‘gli Azzurri’ (the Blues), inspired by the colour of the Italy National Football team, one of the most common chants by Italian fans is ‘Forza Azzurri’ (blue power).

Whenever the national team plays, the sound of car horns and singing can be heard on the streets, along with the sight of joyful dancing. On ‘una vittoria’ (win) days, Italians are often seen celebrating with street parties.

WATCHING THE ITALIAN WAY

Italians love making the most of life’s simple pleasures, and watching sport – particularly football – is no exception. A lot of people enjoy watching the matches at home, keeping it simple with cold pastas and salads, or takeaway pizzas and of course, a drink to celebrate or commiserate, such as a BIRRA MORETTI or BIRRA MORETTI Zero.

BRING THE GAME OUTSIDE

Our favourite way to enjoy the summer of sport is to simply open the patio doors to your garden, wheel your screen into centre stage, and lay out blankets, beanbags and chairs for family and friends to take in the action. Order in a takeaway pizza to keep it simple, or fire up the BBQ.

Don’t miss a second of the action by laying out bottles of water and soft drinks, alongside a garden bucket filled with ice for perfectly chilled BIRRA MORETTI – it will save you multiple trips to the fridge as you entertain. Be sure to include BIRRA MORETTI Zero as an alcohol-free alternative that doesn’t compromise on taste too.

HOME VIEWING

If the British weather isn’t ‘playing ball’, you can take in the action at home inside, so why not serve up some delicious but simple Italian dishes; we’ve got a great recipe for an antipasti platter and our truffle risotto is a real crowd pleaser that can be cooked ahead of time and kept warm in the oven.
